SIG Secures Research Leadership for Air Force ATR Center

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (November 2007) - Signal Innovations Group, Inc. (SIG) will lead an industry/university team for advanced research in Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) tasked by the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL). SIG founder and Duke University Professor Dr. Larry Carin is named the ATR Center Director and Principal Investigator.

“The new ATR Center will promote scientific methods in ATR Research”, said Dr. Larry Carin, William H. Younger Professor of Engineering, Duke University. “Our work will significantly advance information analysis, algorithms and information presentation of deployed ATR sensor systems.” "SIG will be collaborating within the ATR Center with other organizations, including Ohio State University."

This IDIQ program creates a collaborative team of researchers from SIG with university team members at Duke University and the University of Michigan. The ATR Center also names as Principal investigators Dr. Rebecca Willet, Duke University and Dr. Alfred Hero, University of Michigan

“ATR research is a core area for SIG” said Dr. Paul Runkle, President/COO. “We have been building on hierarchical statistical models and information-theoretic analysis for a number of years and this ATR Center program recognizes that capability.”
